Blues rock band whose members included Michael Bloomfield and original member of The Steve Miller Band Barry Goldberg. Noted for their combination of Chicago blues with jazz fusion and R&B. Influenced by Otis Redding, B.B. King, T-Bone Walker, Guitar Slim, and Booker T. and the MGs. Member Buddy Miles had worked with Wilson Pickett and Billy Mundi with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Mitch Ryder was approached to be lead vocalist, but declined to form the Detroit Wheels instead. One of the first bands to include horns, preceding Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Several members of the band became addicted to heroin, including Bloomfield, who quit the group after suffering from insomnia, for which he had been taking heroin. Miles became lead vocalist.
