Early rock and roll musician noted for his raunchy hit Chantilly Lace. Died in 1959 in a plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens in a moment that was immortalized in the folk rock song American Pie as "the day the music died". Despite Holly and Valens both being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the Big Bopper has yet to get in. The Big Bopper was 28 at the time of his death, putting him a year too old to be a member of the infamous 27 club of musicians who died at that age.
