Originally known as Tyrannosaurus Rex. Their song Bang a Gong (Get it On) was named to avoid confusion with a Marvin Gaye song of the same name. They are referenced in The Who song You Better You Bet with the line "I drunk myself blind to the sound of old T. Rex". Phenomenal in their native Britain. Two hit albums in the US, with The Slider being the higher at seventeenth. Broke up after frontman Marc Bolan died in a car accident in 1977. Have influenced The Smiths, David Bowie, Ramones, and R.E.M.
