Blues harmonicist and pioneer of the blues harp. One of the most recorded blues musicians of the prewar and wartime era. His Good Morning, School Girl became a blues standard. Influenced Muddy Waters. Worked for Johnny Winter's Blue Sky label. His son, Sonny II, went on to record many popular blues songs for Checker Records and helped spur the blues revival of the sixties.
