Jefferson Airplane is a very popular San Francisco sound band originating out of The Great! Society. Their song White Rabbit is about the concerns of parents that the works of Lewis Carroll would lead their children into taking acid. Wooden Ships, also performed by Crosby, Stills, and Nash, is about a post-apocolyptic world. Their version provides an additional verse. The song We Can Be Together caused controversy due to its use of an obscenity. A remix partially obscured it, but the word was still audible. The word was replaced on the lyrics sheet with the word "fred". The title of the song 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds equates to 216 miles per hour. The album Surrealistic Pillow is considered one of the greatest of all time. The song Volunteers has become a counterculture staple. One of the "big five" of the San Francisco sound. Member Paul Kantner, who co-wrote Wooden Ships and Volunteers, died January 2016.
