Early rock and roll group noted for performing the original version of The Twist, popularized by Chubby Checker. Initially, only Ballard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2012 it was discovered that, by inducting Smokey Robinson as a solo artist, the Hall had violated their rule that the artist's first record must have been released at least 25 years prior. This led to the creation of a special committee which inducted several long neglected backing groups, including the Midnighters.
